RUBEN “DUKE’ ADAMS SCHOLARSHIP
About Ruben "Duke" Adams:  The Late Ruben Adams was born in Gadsden, Alabama, and was a Barber in Bay City for over fifty years. He was an assistant Sunday school teacher and was highly active in Bethel Church’s Sunday School Program. He was also elected Trustee Emeritus for his years of faithful service, President-Gospel Choir, and Usher Board #1 member. Mr. Adams’ favorite bible verse was: “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all things shall be added unto you,” Matthew 6:33.

Purpose:
To assist young members of Bethel AME Church who are pursuing post-secondary education.

Qualifications:   
To be eligible for this award, the applicant must:
1.  Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.8.
2.  Be a member of Bethel AME Church for at least five years.
3.  Be accepted at an accredited 2-year or 4-year degree-granting academic institution (provide evidence)
4.  Preference is given to youth active in Bethel’s Church Sunday School Programs (provide proof).
5.  Have demonstrated qualities of leadership.

Requirements: 
 
1.  Proof of direct involvement in Bethel’s Sunday school and community service activities.
2.  A two-page typed (MLA Style) essay that addresses your career goal and what influenced your decision.
3.  Three letters of recommendation (shouldn’t include family members) from individuals who are significantly aware of the student’s accomplishments) with at least one from a school administrator/official and one from Bethel’s Sunday School Superintendent.
4.  Copy of an official academic transcript from the high school (signed by a Counselor or Administrator) and all other requested information must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 14

CHARLES WESLEY ATWATER EDUCATIONAL ( SAGINAW & FLINT ) SCHOLARSHIP
About Charles Wesley Atwater:  From a young age, the late Mr. Charles Wesley Atwater was a loyal and faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. He also served as a Deacon at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Flint, Michigan. Foremost, he was a devoted Christian. He was better known as "Uncle Charles"; he was generous, lovable, and generous. As a principal, he dedicated his life to educating and mentoring students, especially from the Carpenter Road District of the Flint Public School system. His niece Beatrice (Bea) King and the Atwater, Hinton, Erwin, and Beemon Families established this scholarship in July 2021.

Purpose:  The purpose of the scholarship is to support students graduating from high school (in Saginaw & Flint, Michigan) planning to attend an accredited 2-year or 4-year academic college institution or an accredited Trade School.

Award Amount: $500.00 for each location, Saginaw & Flint, Michigan.  

Qualifications for Saginaw:  To be eligible for this award, the applicant must:
1) Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and no lower than 2.0.
2) Be an active member of Bethel AME Church.
3) Provide evidence of acceptance at an accredited 2-year or 4-year academic college institution or an accredited Trade School.
4) Demonstrate qualities of leadership.

Qualifications for Flint:  To be eligible for this award, the applicant must:
1) Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 and no lower than 2.0.
2) Attend a school in the Flint, Michigan Educational School System.
3) Provide evidence of acceptance at an accredited 2-year or 4-year academic college institution or an accredited Trade School.
4) Demonstrate qualities of leadership.

Guidelines:  
1.  Submit an essay that addresses your career goal and what influenced your decision. The essay should be double-spaced, in size 12 font, and two pages typed (APA or MLA Style).
2.  Three letters of recommendation (should not include family members but individuals who are significantly aware of the student's accomplishments) with at least one from a school administrator/official. 
3.  A copy of the high school's academic transcript and all other requested information must be received by 5 p.m. on May 5.
WILLIE AND MARY JACKSON EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
About Willie and Mary Jackson:  The late Willie Jackson will be remembered for his love of his family, his passion for collecting and repairing vintage vehicles, and his love of watching sports and western television shows. He definitely believed in telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help him God! He worked at Baker Perkins until his retirement in 1983. He was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church.
 
The late Mary Lois Boyd Jackson was a woman with a passion for serving. She began teaching in the Saginaw Public School District in 1965 at Potter Elementary School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas College with K-8 certification.
 
Mary was an active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served on the Bethel Steward Board, the Bethel Trustee Board, the Class Leaders' Council, the Intercessory Prayer Team, the Puppets of Praise Ministry, the Waves of Praise Flag Ministry, and the Crowns of Glory Liturgical Dance Ministry. She was a member of The United Sisters in Christ Executive Board.

Purpose:
The purpose of the scholarship is to support students graduating from high school and planning to go to college.

Award Amount:  The scholarship amount ranges from $500 - $1,000

Qualifications:  To be eligible for this award, the applicant must:
1.  No minimum grade point average.
2.  Be a member of Bethel AME Church for at least five years.
3.  Be accepted at an accredited 2-year or 4-year degree-granting academic institution (provide evidence)
4.  The applicant must have participated in the church through various committees or youth activities.
5.  Have demonstrated qualities of leadership.

Requirements:  
1.  Provide proof of direct involvement in Bethel's youth programs, activities, and community service.
2.  A two-page typed (MLA Style) essay that addresses your career goal and what influenced your decision.
3.  Three letters of recommendation (shouldn't include family members) from individuals who are significantly aware of the student's accomplishments) with at least one from a school administrator/official and one from Bethel's Ministerial Staff or Board of Christian Education.
4.  Copy of an official academic transcript from the high school (signed by a Counselor or Administrator) and all other requested information must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 6.

SARAH TERRY MOTON'S ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
About Sarah Terry Moton:  The late Sarah Terry Motion graduated Summa Cum Laude from Randolph County High School in Roanoke, AL. She attended the Tuskegee Institute University, where she became an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. member in her sophomore year. Sara graduated from the Tuskegee Institute University with a degree in Elementary Education.

Sarah was accepted into the University of Michigan's School of Social Work. She became a Social Worker for the Saginaw Public Schools. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and served on various committees. Sarah worked in developing several programs for underprivileged and unique children with emotional & learning
disabilities.

In 1994, she opened her own Psychotherapist practice called the S.T.M. Clinic for mental health and substance abuse.  She had this practice for 15 years, with the last three being private.  Sarah officially retired in July of 2007.

Purpose:
To assist Bethel AME Church members pursuing a post-secondary degree in Social Work.

Qualifications:  To be eligible for this award, the applicant must:
1.  Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
2.  Be a member of Bethel AME Church for at least five (5) years
3.  Be accepted at an accredited 4-year degree-granting academic institution (provide evidence)
4.  Have demonstrated qualities of leadership

Requirements:  
1.  Evidence of direct involvement in Bethel Church and community service activities.
2.  A typed page (MLA Style) essay that addresses your career goal and what influenced your decision.
3.  Three (3) letters of recommendation (should not include family members, but should consist of individuals who are well aware of the student's accomplishments), with at least one from a school administrator/official and one from a community agency.
4.  A copy of an academic transcript from high school or college and all other requested information must be received by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 7.

OLIVER D. THOMPSON, JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
About Oliver D. Thompson, Jr.:  The late Mr. Oliver Thompson Jr. was a loyal and faithful member of Bethel AME Church for over fifty years and joined the church in 1969. He served on the Male Chorus, Bethel Voice Chorus, Cup of Water, Usher Board #1, Security, Steward Board, Tuesday Night Bible Study, Sunday School, and a Class Leader through the years. His wife, Gloria Thompson, and family members established the scholarship in April 2020.

Purpose:
 The purpose of the scholarship is to support students graduating from high school and planning to go to college.

Award Amount: The scholarship amount is $500.00

Qualifications:  To be eligible for this award, the applicant must:
1.  Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
2.  Be a member of Bethel AME Church for at least five years.
3.  Be accepted at an accredited 2-year or 4-year degree-granting academic institution (provide evidence)
4.  The applicant must be a member of Bethel AME Church and have participated in the church through various committees and youth activities.
5.  Have demonstrated qualities of leadership.

Requirements:

BETHEL AME CHURCH ( Apply thru Saginaw Community Foundation)
The Bethel AME Church scholarship was established by Bethel-Saginaw.  Students can apply for this scholarship directly through the Saginaw Community Foundation (SCF).
